Meet our Director of Student Support
Ri Trotter

Ri is our Director of Student Support, who covers all the Student Support Section and contributes to Safety.

Ri and her husband, Jimmy, love to travel, and they try to take a trip, even if it’s a quick one, every three to four months.

Jimmy and Ri are big baseball fans, and they still have three ballparks left to visit; then they will have been to all 30 MLB ballparks.

Family is very important to Ri. They live on a “family compound” with over 30 acres, three married children, nine grandkids, nine dogs, nine pigs, six goats, and a large number of chickens, with a one-day goal of acquiring some cattle.

Ri loves to read – Nicholas Sparks is her favorite author, but she also enjoys reading political commentaries and books about government.

When she has some downtime, Ri enjoys working in her flower bed and keeping their home decorated for the current season.

Safety Topics Updated Since June

  • Updated the 89th legislative changes, particularly in the area of armed personnel.
  • Although training for the Behavior Threat Assessment must go through the TxSSC, the Protocols and training on the procedures were updated.
  • Removed from the TxSP website safety areas that are now required to go through the Texas School Safety Center (such as EOPs, specific training, drills, etc.)

Student Support Topics Updated Since June

Ri has recently updated TxSP’s Gifted and Talented Filing Cabinet under the Student Support Section with the following filing drawers:

  • Referrals, evaluation, and placement
  • Appeals
  • Furlough and exits
  • Training requirements

One of Ri’s last responsibilities before retiring from public education was serving as the MTSS, Section 504, and testing coordinator on a campus. Since joining TxSP, she has researched MTSS guidelines and procedures nationwide. In the spring of 2025, Ri completely revamped TxSP’s MTSS section information and developed training materials for our subscribers.
